To My Mother

Like a flower...
you bloom with rare beauty and charm.
Like a bird...
you soar up with such confidence and pride.

Like the sun...
you smile with total warmth and tenderness.
Like the sea...
you create waves of inspiration and love.

I have never seen
a lady as lovely as you;
Nor have I met
a person as caring as you are.

You've thought me everything I know,
You've given me everything I need.
You've done a great job rearing me,
You're the best mother, indeed!

*** I wrote this several years ago, when I still see life as a fairy tale, the way I look at life had changed drastically since then but the way I see my mother remains the same and it'll forever be. I love you omma, Happy Mother's Day!

Expiration Date

Call me a pessimist but I've always believe that love has an expiration date.

There is always a reason why boyfriends and girlfriends break up, why some men or women get jilted on the altar, why a decade-long marriage crumble, why my, yours or our parents split up and succumb to divorce or any legal means of separation; one simple reason, there is no love everlasting.

Don't get your hopes up, just because Cinderella found her Prince Charming doesn't mean it lasted, the author never really let us in on what happened after they got married, right? Don't get any ideas, just because your neighbor marries her childhood sweetheart doesn't mean they will last forever, they may just be those few chosen ones whose love have a longer shelf life. Don't be fooled, just because a friend of yours has been happily married for a few years doesn't mean it will last, give them a few more years and you'll see what I mean. And don't be mistaken, just because you're in love today doesn't mean you'll be eternally, I'm giving you a year or two max.

Call me a pessimist if you must, but love REALLY has an expiration date.

You think, the grandmas and grandpas that live together till they die stayed because of undying love for each other, nah, they do it for companionship. You think, that hardworking moms and dads live together for the longest time because they still feel tingly when they are near each other, no sirree, they do it for the kids. You think, battered (insert names here, i.e, wives, girlfriends) stay with their partners because of love never-ending, nope, it's because of their stupidity and masochistic tendencies. You think, you are staying in your current relationship or your marriage because you are in love, nah-ah, you are staying because it is comfortable and you've grown dependent on it.

You see, love never stays, it lingers for a while like an anesthetic but eventually, it fades.

Call me a pessimist if you still wanna, but I'm telling you LOVE has an EXPIRATION DATE.

I am not telling you to sans away from love and relationships, oh God, please don't be a naive reader and think that, I am just giving you an itty-bitty dosage of reality. Fall in love, experience all the hullabaloo, happiness, sadness, madness, anger-ness (teehee) and all that, just be smart cause no one can fall forever, you have to land back on reality, sooner or later, that's the law of gravity.

Now repeat after me, LOVE HAS AN EXPIRATION DATE.

Oh yeah, before any of you get sassy on me, I want to reiterate that I am talking about love between a man and a woman (same sex love affairs is also considered *grins*). Don't go raining on my parade with the love of God, love of mother to her child crap because hello, I also know that, okie *smiles*.

One more thing, please no haters, I don't wanna hate you back...

How's that for my first official 2011 post?

The Letter (Scenario Number Four)

I am on a Jin-Bo roll, don't take this into heart though, that is why this is called fiction. Okay?

This is going to be a great day, for no other reason than it being August 16, and it being her birthday. She has the whole day to spend with her family - her mother is currently busy cooking seaweed soup and other delectable treats, her father went out a while ago, she overheard that he's going to buy a simple cake in the nearby bakeshop while her brother called up to say that he'll be there with his girlfriend by lunch, he even asked what kind of flowers does the celebrant want. Later, she'll have dinner with her close friends and maybe go to the club for some dancing, she reached a stage in her life when big, glamorous parties doesn't appeal that much anymore.

For the meantime, she decided on chilling out in the front porch, with a bunch of back issues of fashion magazines, willing herself to read and study designs that might have passed her, she had been busy these past few months and admittedly, her passion for fashion designing had taken the backseat. She has been thinking of going to the US to take a short course but her schedules wont permit it at the moment, she has to talk to her manager and work something out if she wants to ever get into it. 'I need to make a decision soon, I'm not getting any younger. I need to seize the day and make my dreams happen,' she mentally noted.

She was in the middle of reading and sketching when she noticed the postman shoving a bunch of letters in their mailbox, she hadn't been visible around their neighborhood for a while now as she mostly stayed in her apartment unit in Seoul,in her line of work, proximity is the key, hurrying from location and studio shoots to their house will take a lot of time thus an apartment in Gangnam-gu is a wise choice. The postman went away as she looked on, when the man was finally nowhere in sight, she giddily stand up and semi-ran to the mailbox to get the letters, it's not that she badly wanted one but she just feels like something special is hidden in the bunch of papers and envelopes somewhere.

She was shuffling through the files when a yellow envelope caught her eye, it has her name written on it and it's from the military camp in Busan. Her heart leaped in excitement, it must be from Choong Jae, a greeting card maybe, he sure won't forget her birthday as they had celebrated more than their fair share of birthdays together as they were born, only, three days apart.

She cut the envelope and found an old yellowish card with a simple heart caricature as a front design, when she opened it, she found a small folded stationery inside with a printed note that reads - Read the card first!

And so she starts to read, with a furrowed brow, wondering what her best friend is up to, 'Why would he send me an old card, did he bought it in a vintage shop somewhere but he knows that I don't like antique stuff, and it's not even a birthday card. I wonder what the eff is Choong Jae thinking?'

She has just finish the first stanza when it hits her, what the hell, she stares at the poem, mouth agape...

My friend, I hate to do it

But our friendship just can't last

The times we've shared together

Have faded to the past

I told you it would happen

Our friendship was bound to end

Although I know you care

I don't consider you a friend

Please don't try to argue

But try to understand

That time can change people

As the time changes the sand

Our friendship has been lovely

But you see, it has to end

For I look at you at a different way

I have fallen in love with you...

MY FRIEND!

"What is this?" she mused loudly.

She read it for the second time and the moment she finished, she began to roar with laughter, she, actually, ended up on the floor laughing her guts out. 'Choong Jae really knows his stuff, it's just a simple card but it did make her day.' she thought, laughing and clapping harder.

A
worried look followed by an amused one by her mother and a glassful of orange juice later, she calmed down. She was able to get on to the small note tucked in the card and her heart felt like exploding because of the three sentences that was written on it.

Yah! Stop laughing!

I wrote that when we were high school seniors but I was too much of a coward to give it to you so I hold on unto it until I found the courage to hand it to you, but as luck might have it, I am stuck here in the military camp by the time the powers that be grant me the spunk to do so.

There's no need to answer me now, you have till I come back from my service to decide but if ever you find it in your heart to save me some heartache and worried days, visit me at the camp and I'll give you a better version of that poem, the one I wrote recently and the one that I'll record as our song when I have my comeback a year from now.

--- Park Choong Jae

She wants to laugh but for the life of her, she can't. Her heart's beating so fast and so hard, it feels like her ribcage will tear apart any moment now. An overflow of blood seems to be stock in her brain as she can't think clearly. The nerves and muscles of her body are not working as it should as she can't move a finger. And her tear ducts seems to have a life of their own as tears began to fall even though she doesn't want to.

After being frozen and being wrapped in silence in an hour or two, Hwangbo Hye Jung was finally able to come back, to herself, that is. A smile slowly etch in her face,
"This is a great day, indeed!"

Note: The poem's title is My Friend.

Picture of You

This is me joining Nads' August cause, and because it is a month-long celebration, you can expect more posts related to the woman we all love. Should I start humming the birthday song?

Lying on my bed
In the stillness of the night

Dreaming of a face
Only you could have

Of brows so perfect
Of lips so full
Of eyes which could mesmerize even a fool

I want to touch you
But I'm scared you may fade away
I wish I could feel you
But I'm afraid you won't stay

You're a sight to behold
Without a name, without a word
A picture of tenderness
Existing in my world

I wonder who you are
I wonder where you're from
Could you be an angel sent to me by the Lord

One day I hope to meet you
Full and complete
By then you won't be a picture
I see only in my dreams

EDIT: Nads sent this to me, this is the syndicated version as mentioned by an anonymous visitor and you can see it in her blog. Nads definitely made it prettier, cheers!

Note: The bandwagon is big, there's still an ample space for more people, care to join us?

The End

My pink and purple lala-land is still shrouded, will you wait till I can twirl again?

Why do great love stories always end in tragedy? Why can't it be a fairy tale, a once upon a time and a they live happily ever after? Why do I have to cry while the woman in the last romance novel that I read smile and dance and laugh? Why can't I be happy when others who are not an ounce better than me seems to have found joy? Why do I have to suffer when all I ever wanted was to love and to be love? Why?

All my life, I tried hard not to fall in love, when God knows how much I wanted to, because I was scared. I build up a strong wall, hoping it will keep me safe and protected. I blinded myself from beauty, charm and grace, except from those that I already knew, hoping that I'll journey through this world unscathed and unharmed. I live my life, opting to hide and hoping that I can stay hidden as long as I want. But hopes, just like wishes, doesn't always come true.

Somebody up there decided to send me someone, maybe He thought that it's about time to move, to grow up and to have what I always wanted, but I was too 'chicken' to look.

Ours may not be a match made in heaven but it sure is a match blessed by heaven. But as most love stories go, it's not all bliss - there's always a turning point, a catch. And ours is way out of our league, I can't even begin to comprehend why or when it happened, I just know it did. And I don't have the power to stop it, or maybe I did, I just have that much pride within me, more than I can handle, I guess. And so it goes, then it was gone.

He wanted me to have everything - fancy clothes, jewelries and cars, everything that he thought I need, everything that he thought I want. When all I ever wanted was him. when all I ever needed was for him to love me.

How can a great love come to a tragic end?

Envy

I am on a fandom crossroad or whatevah this is called, hurhur. I'm still fixing my dazed and doubtful heart, so, kindly bear with it, `ayt!

I thought, I wrote, I post... nothing much to tell :) and yeah, the poem is petty!

When I look at the mirror,

I hate what I see,

I wish I am taller,

I wish I am not me.

When I see my friends,

My soul sink all the more,

I know now what I feel,

I do envy them all.

I don't like what I feel,

In that I am sure,

But I don't deny,

I can't resist the feeling's allure.

Pink, Purple and Green

Hooray to the wise and who could those be?

I did it on Monday

I wasn't going to do it again

But I did it on Tuesday

On Wednesday, I fought it like a tiger

but I did it anyway

Thursday came, same story

I thought Friday would be different

but I did it at 4 o'clock

Saturday was the absolute worst

I did it twice!

By Sunday, I was exhausted

but just before midnight...

Guess what?

I thought of you again!

Did you get my drift? Tip: Read it in HJ's POV.

Note: Some people I know will be so happy to read between the lines, those who don't get it, go buy yourself some sense of humor, hurhur.

The Greenery now has a dash of green, it's not all about pink and purple anymore.

Lifeless

Alone in the midst of darkness
walking by the graveyard on my own
Death brought forth by loneliness
Fear and misery in my home.

Alone in the cold wind of the night
Tearfully wishing for the light
Thinking about the love that I lost
Wondering if our path would ever cross.

Alone in the room of shadows
Drowning through my sorrows
A smile to hide the pain
Hoping I may fade in the rain.

... Alone ...

She slowly drop the pen, take a deep breath and stare straight at the television set. The creases on her forehead deepens as the man who has brought her so much happiness and has given her her deepest heartache and pain walks on the stage, flashes his signature smile and starts to sing.

His song seems to be void of emotions and his smiles doesn't reach his eyes but she still envy him, at least he can pretend to be happy and fake a grin while she's here... lifeless.

Note: Bee just told me last night that we should write happy fics and I immediately told her that all my works have happy endings, I even told her that as much as I try, I can't seem to create a sad and gloomy piece. I guess, in between that time and today something happened, don't ask me what.

Another Note: I planned on Alone as a title but after I wrote this, Lifeless seems to be a better title. So to honor my previous thought, I shall entitle the poem Alone and the entire lit. Lifeless :). Fair deal, right?
